YES or NO: Makeup Alternatives

Fingerprint Cosmetics

Often when traditional colour cosmetics are not available, there are alternatives that are advertised online and on YouTube challenges that can be reached for. Although there are many chemicals that the body can process with ease when consumed, the skin on the face is incredibly sensitive and prone to breakouts and discolouration when it is faced with unnatural products.

The appeal of using cosmetic alternatives is high, particularly for products that are inexpensive and close at hand. Items such as food colouring, cocoa powder, baking powders, permanent markets and shoe polish are on the most commonly used list of products to substitute for cosmetics. Although these products, when exposed to your skin may not have any side-effects, once exposed to the incredibly sensitive skin on the face may cause staining, blotching, discolouration and even a breakout. As many of the alternatives were never intended for cosmetic use, exposing your eyes to any untested products may cause extreme irritation and permanent damage to the eyes.

Please be extremely mindful of any products that you bring close to your face and eyes – remembering that these products were never intended to be used on the skin and the results may be extremely damaging. For cosmetics use, please ensure that you only use products that are certified to be used as cosmetics.
