The truth: FAKE COSMETICS

In the current economic climate and with the vast expense of available cosmetics, there is a big market for fake alternatives to the big brand cosmetics. Usually found in flea markets or smaller distributors, these products are very appealing to the consumer, often being packaged as well as the original at a fraction of the price. As with all things that seem to good to be true, fake cosmetics is often not what it appears to be in the package. Being what it is, the production process, formulas, chemicals and quality is unmonitored and often there are chemicals found in fake cosmetics that are severely dangerous to health and can cause severe reactions on the skin that can cause permanent breakouts and skin discolouration. In many cases the locations of the production are unhealthy, unmonitored and contaminated with various bacteria and viruses that can be transferred to the product. Most common dangerous substances found in fake makeup include arsenic, human and animal feces, rust particles, lead and e-coli bacteria.

There is a common misconception that only if consumed will these harmful chemicals or compounds have an effect on the body. And although the skin is a great barrier to chemicals, viruses or substances it is still an organ that absorbs the chemicals that it is exposed too. The skin on the face is especially sensitive to chemical contact and absorb 60% of everything that it put on it – so even small exposure to fake cosmetics can have a long term effect on the health.

Please be extremely careful when purchasing cosmetics from unregistered or untrustworthy suppliers. Always purchase branded cosmetics from the supplier and distributors as indicated by them.

Every consumer of fake cosmetics carries the responsibility for it’s continued production and should they be seen or found at unauthorised distributors, please contact the original company and make them aware of it. That is the only way to get the dangerous fakes off the streets.
